The town is home to Goodwin University, Rentschler Heliport, the headquarters of the aircraft manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, and Rentschler Field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium. The town was incorporated in 1783. It has a total area of 18.7 sq mi (48.5 km2).
