The seat of Humboldt County, Eureka is a seaport city located on the Humboldt Bay, in the Redwood Empire region of the state, Northern California, United States. It was inhabited by The Wiyot people for thousands of years before the Europeans came. The city was known as "Jaroujiji" in the Wiyot language. Eureka was founded on May 13, 1850, incorporated as a town on April 18, 1856, and as a city on February 19, 1874.
