Groton is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, the United States, located in the northwestern part of the county and 40 miles northwest of Boston. It is home to Groton School, one of the most selective private colleges as well as one of the top five boarding schools in the country. It was founded as Groton School for Boys in 1884. The town is also home to Lawrence Academy which was established in 1793 as Groton Academy. The town was settled and incorporated in 1655, named for the village in Suffolk, England. Routes 40, 111, 119, and 225 serve the area. It is bordered by Pepperell, Dunstable, Townsend, Tyngsborough, Littleton, Ayer, Westford, and Shirley.
