Gujarat, India

Gujarat is one of the Indian states located in the northwestern part of the country, near the border between India and Pakistan. It is the fifth-largest state of India by area and the westernmost state of the country. Gujarat covers an area of about 75,500 square miles and has India’s longest coastline, stretching roughly 990 miles. The southern and southwestern parts of Gujarat face the Arabian Sea, while the northern part borders Pakistan and the state of Rajasthan. To the east, Gujarat shares borders with Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The city of Gandhinagar, located in the northeastern part of the state, is the capital of Gujarat, and the city of Ahmedabad, situated about 20 miles to the south of the capital, is its largest urban center. Gujarat is home to numerous ports, 41 in total, with many of them serving as major ports for regional and national trade. Several rivers flow through the state, including the Sabarmati River, which passes through both Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

Major cities in Gujarat include Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, and Amreli. Much of the state consists of lowlands, with a number of small and medium-sized lakes located in the northern and northeastern regions. Highland areas include parts of the Aravalli Range, the Vindhya Range, and other smaller hill systems in the east and southeast.

Gir Forest National Park, located in the southwestern part of Gujarat, is one of India’s most important wildlife areas and is home to the rare Asiatic lion in its natural habitat.
