Sacramento is a historic and beautiful city located in the central part of California, in the western United States. It is the capital and the principal economic and political center of the state. The first settlement in the area was established in the early 19th century by a group of European and Spanish settlers.

The city lies in a valley on the banks of the Sacramento River, and the region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long, dry summers and mild, relatively dry winters. Sacramento has its own municipal area and is located in relatively close proximity to other major urban areas, including San Francisco and San Jose. The central part of the city is located at the confluence of the American River and the Sacramento River.

Sacramento is a center of education, with a large campus of California State University, Sacramento, as well as numerous colleges and high schools.

Points of interest include the California State Capitol Museum, California State Railroad Museum, SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity, California Automobile Museum, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, Sutter’s Landing Regional Park, and the State Capitol Park World Peace Rose Garden.
