Lima, Peru

Lima is a coastal city and the capital of Peru, a country in the western part of the South American continent. Lima is located in the central part of the country, facing the Pacific Ocean, and it is the main port and the center of the country's economy and commerce. It is part of a large metropolitan area with several million people living there. Lima is also one of the most famous tourist destinations and is home to many landmarks and annual cultural events. The city has a long history and numerous tourist attractions: old fortifications and colonial buildings, galleries and museums, cathedrals and beautiful parks, wide squares and modern shopping areas, as well as business and educational centers. 

Geographically, Lima is located in a seismically active zone, and earthquakes occur there relatively often. Traditionally, the region surrounding Lima was a center of agriculture and farming, and the name of the city originates from the expression meaning "arable lands." During the colonial period, the city was a major center of learning and education, and modern Lima is home to one of the oldest universities on the continent, the National University of San Marcos, which was established in 1551. Known as "Beta City," Lima is a hub of modern South American globalization, international business, and social life. The residents of the city love sports and spending time outdoors, so there are many modern sports facilities in Lima, and the city frequently hosts various international competitions and championships.
