Louisiana is one of the southeastern states of the United States of America and is part of the country’s coastal region along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. The state shares borders with Texas to the west, Arkansas to the north, and Mississippi to the east, while its southern border is defined by the Gulf of Mexico coastline. The total area of the state is close to 52,000 square miles, which makes Louisiana one of the smallest states in the country. Baton Rouge is the capital of the state, and New Orleans is the largest city in Louisiana. Other major cities include Lafayette, Shreveport, Monroe, Lake Charles, and Alexandria.

Louisiana is known for its impressive number of natural attractions, including forests, rivers, lakes, and state and national parks. A large part of the western border of the state is formed by the Sabine River, while the eastern border follows the Mississippi River. Louisiana is often described as one of the most multicultural states in the U.S., with many communities and cultures living side by side. The main attractions of the state include St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, Preservation Hall, Louis Armstrong Park, The National WWII Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Caesars Superdome. Louisiana is also home to large natural areas such as Kisatchie National Forest, Bodcau Wildlife Management Area, and Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge.
