Michigan City is a city in Indiana, United States, located within LaPorte County on the shores of Lake Michigan and 45 miles east of Chicago. It is a popular resort and an excellent spot for an active type of vacation. The city was founded in 1830 by Isaac C. Elston and incorporated in 1836. It is home to Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa, at 777 Blue Chip Drive. It has a total gaming space of 65,000 sq ft (6,000 m2) and is known as the largest riverboat casino in the state. The city is also home to Michigan City Generating Station. Michigan City Municipal Airport and U.S. Routes 12, 20 and 421 serve the area.
