Surrounded by green hills and scenic landscapes, it sits 75 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The city was founded by, and named after, Zackquill Morgan and was incorporated in 1838. Today, Morgantown serves as the seat of Monongalia County.

The city is home to West Virginia University, originally founded as the Agricultural College of West Virginia in 1867. Morgantown Municipal Airport is located approximately 3 miles from the city center, and the area is also served by U.S. Routes 19 and 119, as well as Interstates 68 and 79.
