Mount Pleasant is a historic city in Iowa, United States, located in the northeastern part of the state. It is the seat of Henry County. It was founded by Presley Saunders in 1835, and incorporated on July 15, 1856. Mount Pleasant was one of the three stations where the Solar eclipse of August 7, 1869, was observed. The city is also home to the historic Union Block Building. Arabella A. Mansfield became the first woman in the country who was awarded a license to practice law in 1869 in the Union Block. Mt Pleasant is home to Iowa Wesleyan University, a private school that was founded in 1842. Mt Pleasant Airport is situated to the east of the city center. Tourist attractions in the city are Midwest Central Railroad, East Lake Park, Oakland Mills Park, Saunders Park Pavilion, Midwest Old Threshers Heritage Museums, etc. U.S. Route 34 serves the area.
