Oakland is a large city in central California and the seat of Alameda County, located on the eastern side of San Francisco Bay, directly opposite San Francisco. Oakland is bordered by Berkeley to the north, San Leandro to the south, and Alameda to the west. The city has a total area of 78 square miles. The phrase “There is no there there” is often associated with the city. The area is also known for its advanced and efficient transportation system.

The city is home to Mills College, California College of the Arts, Holy Names University, and the University of California, Berkeley campus. Oakland International Airport is about 10 miles from the city center. Oakland is considered one of the best places to live in California, with excellent residential areas, facilities, services, entertainment and shopping zones, numerous parks, and many educational and medical institutions.

Among the city’s attractions are Jack London Square, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Oakland Museum, Chabot Space and Science Center, Western Aerospace Museum, J. Mora Moss House, Joaquin Miller Park, Lake Merritt, the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt, Morcom Rose Garden, Anthony Chabot Regional Park, Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve, Redwood Regional Park, the Oakland California Temple, Oakland’s Urban Wine Trail, and Oakland City Hall.
