Portales, New Mexico: Top Producer of Peanut Butter

Portales is a city in eastern New Mexico, United States, located on U.S. Route 70. It serves as the seat of Roosevelt County. Cannon Air Force Base is situated 17 miles north of the city. Portales is home to the main campus of Eastern New Mexico University, a public university. The city is also known as one of the major producers of peanut butter in the United States. Sunland, Inc. was located in Portales between 1988 and 2013. Portales Municipal Airport, State Roads 88 and 206 serve the area.

Portales is home to several historic buildings, including the Roosevelt County Courthouse. It is a historic courthouse situated at 100 West 2nd Street. It was built in 1938 and designed by Robert E. Merrell in the Art Deco style. This historic courthouse was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on December 3, 2008. Local attractions include Oasis State Park, Greyhound Arena, Blackwater Draw Museum, Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium, and City Park.
