The town of Secaucus, nicknamed The Jewel of the Meadowlands, is located on the shores of the Hackensack River, in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. Incorporated as a town on June 5, 1917, it is an island located within the New Jersey Meadowlands. It is bordered by Penhorn Creek and Cromakill Creek to the east. The name of the town was derived from an expression meaning "black snake" in the Algonquian languages. The town is served by Interstate 95 and the Secaucus Junction Train Station. Secaucus is home to several large retail outlets and shopping centers, including The Plaza at Harmon Meadow and The Mall at Mill Creek. Local attractions include Laurel Hill Park, Mill Creek Point Park, Schmidts Woods Park, Mill Creek Marsh Trail, and Kane Stadium.
