Shelby, North Carolina: Filming Location of The Hunger Games

Shelby is a city in Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States, located 45 miles west of Charlotte, near the state border with South Carolina. Situated in the south-central part of the county, the city serves as the county seat. The Cherokee and the Catawba originally inhabited the area. It was settled in the 18th century and named after Isaac Shelby, an American politician. There are numerous historic sites and buildings in Shelby that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including James Heyward Hull House, Joshua Beam House, Joseph Suttle House, West Warren Street Historic District, and Central Shelby Historic District.

Shelby-Cleveland County Regional Airport, U.S. Route 74 and North Carolina Highways 18, 150, 180, and 226 serve the area. The District 12 reaping ceremony scene of The Hunger Games (2012) was filmed in Shelby. Local attractions include John H. Moss Lake Recreation Park, Deer Brook Golf Club, Shelby City Park, Earl Scruggs Center, Don Gibson Theatre, and the City of Shelby Holly Oak Park.
