Sriperumbudur (ஸ்ரீபெரும்புதூர்) is a town in the Kanchipuram district, the state of Tamil Nadu, India, located 40 kilometers southwest of Chennai. It is part of the Chennai suburban area. The town is famous as the birthplace of Sri Ramanuja, an Indian Hindu philosopher and guru. It is also the place where Rajiv Gandhi, the former Indian Prime Minister, was murdered in 1991. Rajiv Gandhi Memorial is one of the main points of interest in the area. Sriperumbudur is an economic hub, home to many companies such as Saint-Gobain. It is also home to several schools, like Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development and Velumailu Siddha Medical College.
