Serving as the seat of Washington County, Stillwater is a city in Minnesota, United States, located on the bank of the St. Croix River. It is situated on the state border with Wisconsin and 26 miles east of Minneapolis. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Settled on October 26, 1843, the city is known as the Birthplace of Minnesota because of its role in the establishment of the state. State Highways 36, 95, and 96 are major routes that run through the city.
