The French Quarter, New Orleans, LA, USA

The French Quarter is the historic center of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. Located along the Mississippi River, it is bordered by Esplanade Avenue to the north, Canal Street to the south, North Rampart Street to the west, and the Mississippi River to the east. The area was settled by French colonists in the early 18th century. Today, it is a major tourist destination known for its historic landmarks, jazz clubs, live music venues, bars, restaurants, markets, and annual events. Many of New Orleans’ most popular tourist attractions are located in the French Quarter.

Jackson Square is a historic park, designated as a U.S. National Historic Landmark and listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Named after Andrew Jackson and dating back to 1721, the park is part of the Vieux Carré Historic District and covers 2.5 acres. It is surrounded by tourist attractions, gift shops, and historic buildings such as the Cabildo Museum and St. Louis Cathedral. The Museum of Illusions, Preservation Hall, and the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum are also located nearby.

There are numerous other attractions in and around the French Quarter. The New Orleans Jazz Museum is a heritage museum that attracts jazz music fans, while nearby Louis Armstrong Park features landmarks such as Congo Square, the Louis Armstrong Statue, and the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts. Visitors often stop by the French Market, where they can buy souvenirs, artwork, clothing, and local food.
