Tribeca -an abbreviation of “Triangle Below Canal”- is a small, predominantly residential neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, United States. It was first settled by Dutch immigrants in the 17th century. The neighborhood is bordered by Canal Street to the north, Broadway to the east, West Street to the west, and Vesey Street to the south. Tribeca is famous for hosting the Tribeca Film Festival.
The Tribeca Historic District features industrial-era buildings, such as the Textile Building at 241 Church Street. This 14-story structure was constructed in the early 20th century and designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh in the Neo-Renaissance style. The American Thread Building at 260 West Broadway was built in 1896, designed by William B. Tubby in the Renaissance Revival style, and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on January 20, 2005. Other historic buildings in the neighborhood include 32 Avenue of the Americas. Hook & Ladder 8, located at 14 North Moore Street, also became famous as a filming location for the iconic Ghostbusters franchise.
Tribeca is home to several educational institutions, like Borough of Manhattan Community College, New York Law School, and the New York Academy of Art. The neighborhood offers a variety of restaurants, hotels, and boutiques, along with several attractions and parks. Hudson River Park is a scenic waterfront park known for its wide pedestrian paths and views of the Hudson River.
Tribeca has been used as a filming location for the 2026 television series Love Story. The residence of John F. Kennedy Jr. was located at 20 North Moore Street.
