Central Business District, New Orleans, USA

The Central Business District is located in the heart of New Orleans, United States. It is a downtown neighborhood situated south of the French Quarter and bordered by the Mississippi River to the east. It is also adjacent to the Lower Garden District and Central City to the south, and Tulane/Gravier to the west. Interstate 10 defines its western border, and U.S. Route 90 passes along its southern border. The neighborhood features a mix of modern high-rise buildings and historic architecture, along with shopping areas and boutique hotels. It is a busy neighborhood, home to numerous international companies, organizations, consulates, and corporate headquarters.

The New Orleans Lower Central Business District is situated within the Central Business District. It is a U.S. historic district and has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since June 24, 1991. The district is home to several historic structures, such as the New Orleans Cotton Exchange, the Hennen Building, the Orpheum Theatre, and the National American Bank Building.

Caesars Superdome, previously known as Mercedes-Benz Superdome (2011–2021), is located at 1500 Sugar Bowl Drive. Opened on August 3, 1975, it is home to the NFL’s New Orleans Saints. This iconic stadium has a seating capacity of over 73,000 people and has hosted many notable events throughout its history, including Super Bowl LIX in 2025.

Smoothie King Center is located next to the Caesars Superdome, at 1501 Dave Dixon Drive. Opened in 1999 and formerly known as the New Orleans Arena, it is home to the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans (formerly the Hornets). The arena hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 2008, 2014, and 2017.

Other tourist attractions in the Central Business District include The Sazerac House, The National WWII Museum, Riverwalk Outlets, and Lafayette Square. The Union Passenger Terminal serves the area.
