The city of Tonawanda is located on the western end of the Erie Canal in northern Erie County, western New York, United States. Situated 12 miles north of Buffalo and 2 miles south of North Tonawanda, the city is a part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The city was settled at the beginning of the 19th century. Local attractions include Veterans Memorial Park, Niawanda Park, Long Homestead Historical Museum, Gateway Harbor, Niawanda Park Pavilion, Two Mile Creek Greenway Trail, Isleview Park, Tribute Garden, Sheridan Park, Tonawanda Bowling Center, and Paddock Chevrolet Golf Dome. Historic Sites in the city are Kibler High School, The Tonawanda Armory, and US Post Office-Tonawanda. The city has also celebrated the annual Canal Fest of the Tonawandas since 1983.
