West Plains, the seat of Howell County, is a city in Missouri, United States, located on U.S. Routes 63 and 160. The West Plains Regional Airport, Routes 14 and 17 also serve the area. It was incorporated as a city in 1883. It is a historic city dating back to 1832, and home to several houses and sites that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Those include the West Plains Bank Building, the Courthouse Square Historic District, the International Shoe Company Building, Mount Zion Lodge Masonic Temple, and the W. J. and Ed Smith Building. The city is home to Missouri State University–West Plains, a public community college.
