Cancún, Mexico

Cancún is a beautiful tourist city in southeastern Mexico, located on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo. It is the municipal seat of Benito Juárez. Although relatively small, the city is lively and famous for its white-sand beaches, resort hotels, Maya archaeological sites, and vibrant nightlife, including restaurants, shops, and nightclubs. Cancún is served by one of Mexico’s busiest airports, Cancún International Airport, located south of the city.

The Hotel Zone, established in September 1974, extends for 22.5 kilometers along the Caribbean coastline. This area contains most of Cancún’s hotels, beaches, restaurants, and shopping centers, making it the main tourist hub and a key economic and employment center of the city.

The Hotel Zone is home to several popular beaches with white sand, crystal-clear shallow waters, and lots of amenities. Playa Langosta features a restaurant and a playground, while Playa Delfines is known for its open public beach and breathtaking dolphin sightings. Punta Cancún Lighthouse is a famous landmark and a popular photo spot with its red-and-white striped lighthouse. Playa Tortugas offers clear water, public access, umbrellas, and chair rentals. Nearby attractions include the Mayan Museum of Cancún, opened in 2012, which displays exhibits and archaeological finds related to Mayan culture.

Cancún also includes several important archaeological sites, such as El Rey and Yamil Lu’um, located close to the Hotel Zone.
