Central City, nicknamed "The Richest Square Mile on Earth", is a historic city located 80 miles east of Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and 11 miles north of Idaho Springs, in Gilpin and Clear Creek Counties, Colorado, United States. Bordered by Black Hawk to the east, it is the seat of Gilpin County, as well as the most populous one. The city is situated in the southern part of Gilpin County, surrounded by mountains and campgrounds such as Maryland Mountain, Columbine Campground, Cold Springs Campground, Pewabic Mountain, Bald Mountain, and Mt Pisgah. Central City was settled during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush and incorporated on June 12, 1886. Tourist attractions in the city include The Central City Opera House, The Teller House, Gilpin County Museum, Black Hawk hiking area, Hidee Gold Mine Tours and Panning, etc. There are also lots of hotels in the city center.
