Coimbatore (கோயம்புத்தூர்) is the second-largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu, located in the southeastern part of India. The city is situated in the northwestern part of the state and is a key center of the industrial, business, social, and cultural life of the region. The city was formerly known as Koyamuthur and currently has an area of approximately 95 square miles.

Coimbatore is located in the plains near the Western Ghats, which rise to the west and north of the city. The average elevation of the city is about 1,350 feet. The city is built on the banks of the Noyyal River, which offers scenic views in the downtown area. The city center is located near the geographical center of the urban area and includes neighborhoods such as Rai Nagar, Saibaba Colony, Sivananda Colony, and Tatabad.
