Colorado Springs is one of the largest cities in the state of Colorado, situated in the west-central part of the United States. The city is located in the central part of the state and serves as the seat of El Paso County. Colorado Springs is located about 70 miles south of Denver. Interstate 25 and Colorado Springs Airport serve the area.

The total urban area of the city is estimated to be about 19 square miles, and the average elevation of Colorado Springs is over 6,000 feet, meaning the city sits more than a mile above sea level. Colorado Springs is located in a scenic valley bordered by the high peaks of the Southern Rocky Mountains to the west. Pikes Peak, the highest point of the Southern Rockies, is located just about 12 miles from the downtown area.
