Downtown Seattle serves as the central business district of Seattle, Washington, United States. Located along Elliott Bay, it is considered a compact downtown because it covers a relatively small area yet has a very high concentration of skyscrapers, luxury hotels, residential buildings, shopping centers, restaurants, and local markets. The area is home to iconic modern buildings such as the Columbia Center and 1201 Third Avenue. Many important landmarks and office buildings are within walking distance of each other, giving the area a dense and efficient feel. Interstate 5 runs through downtown Seattle, providing major north–south access. The Seattle Ferry Terminal connects downtown with several destinations across Puget Sound.

Downtown is also home to several of Seattle’s major attractions. The Seattle Art Museum, located at 1300 First Avenue, was established in 1933. It features a large collection of both modern and classical artworks, making it one of the city’s top cultural destinations. The Paramount Theatre at 901 Pine Street is a historic venue that hosts major events, concerts, and comedy performances. Opened in 1928, it is a Seattle Landmark and has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since October 19, 1974.

The Olympic Sculpture Park, situated at 2901 Western Avenue, is a popular outdoor sculpture museum operated by the Seattle Art Museum. Admission is free, and the park offers beautiful views of Elliott Bay along with beach access. Right next to it is Myrtle Edwards Park, known for its beautiful walking and biking paths and a few historical landmarks along the waterfront.

Another must-visit destination is Pike Place Market, one of the oldest continuously operating farmers’ markets in the United States. Dating back to the early 20th century, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1970.

Downtown Seattle includes several districts. The Chinatown-International District is home to a large Asian American community and consists of three neighborhoods: Chinatown, Little Saigon, and Japantown. It is a designated U.S. historic district and features famous landmarks, such as the Historic Chinatown Gate.

Meanwhile, Belltown is one of the busiest neighborhoods in downtown. It was named after William Nathaniel Bell, one of the early settlers who helped found Seattle and lived there during its early development. Today, Belltown is a lively area filled with businesses, educational institutions, and popular attractions.
