Exeter is a town in New Hampshire, United States, situated within Rockingham County, 30 miles east of Manchester and 54 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts. It served as the seat of the county until 1997. It was settled and incorporated in 1638. The town is home to Phillips Exeter Academy (PEA), an independent, college-preparatory school founded in 1781. The Exeter River drains the town and flows into the Squamscott River in the town center. Exeter Train Station and New Hampshire Routes 27, 85, 88, 108, 111, and 111A serve the area. Exeter is home to the headquarters of Bauer Hockey and SIG Sauer, a manufacturer. Local attractions include American Independence Museum, Congregational Church in Exeter, Exeter Historical Society, Gilman Garrison House, and Goel Center for Theater and Dance.
