Fairbanks is a small city located in the central part of the state of Alaska. It is a northern community and a settlement built near the banks of the Tanana River. Fairbanks is known for its remarkably beautiful setting, surrounded by low green hills of central Alaska. The city enjoys its favorable location and covers an area of about 32 square miles. It is the largest city in the central part of the state, also known as Interior Alaska.

The city is a key transportation hub, and the distance from Fairbanks to the state capital, Juneau, is estimated to be close to 735 miles. The largest city in the state, Anchorage, is situated about 260 miles south of Fairbanks. Fairbanks is a center of industry and education, with several modern technology-oriented companies and a university, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, based there.

The city has a well-developed transportation system, with railroads and state highways connecting it to other parts of the state. In addition, there are two airports, Fort Wainwright and Fairbanks International Airport, located to the east and west of the city center, respectively. The largest neighborhoods of Fairbanks include College, Chena, Clear Creek Park, and several others. On the outskirts of the city, as well as to the east, it is possible to find several notable natural parks, such as the Goldstream Public Use Area, Chena River State Recreation Area, Steese National Conservation Area, and others.
