Guwahati, Assam, India

Guwahati (also known as Gauhati) (গুৱাহাটী) is a large city in the state of Assam in Northeast India. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and is known as the “City of Temples”. Guwahati serves as a major river port on the Brahmaputra River and is the main commercial center of Assam.

The city is home to Gauhati University (GU), the oldest university in Northeast India, located in Jalukbari. Guwahati also hosts numerous educational institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), Cotton University, Assam Science and Technology University, and Gauhati Commerce College, among others.

Local attractions include several bazaars and shopping areas such as Paltan Bazaar, Beltola Bazaar, Fancy Bazaar, Big Bazaar, Sohum Shoppe, and Shine Towers, as well as the ACA Stadium. Religious and cultural landmarks in and around the city include Basistha Temple, Jojuwa Waterfall, Maa Kamakhya Temple, the Kamakhya Mandir Gate, Bhubaneswari Temple, the One-Horned Rhino Statue, Navagraha Temple, Purva Tirupati Shri Balaji Temple, Umananda Temple, the Regional Science Centre, and Shrimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra.

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, also known as Guwahati Airport, is one of the busiest airports in the region and is located about 28 kilometers (18 miles) from the city center.
