Long Branch, New Jersey: The First Seaside Resort

Long Branch, known as the First Seaside Resort, is a coastal city in New Jersey, United States, located within Monmouth County, on the Atlantic Ocean. The city is situated about 50 miles south of New York City. It was settled in the 17th century, incorporated as Long Branch Commission on April 11, 1867, and reincorporated as a city on April 8, 1903. Long Branch is a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches, local attractions, restaurants, and hotels. It is bordered by Deal to the south, Monmouth Beach to the north, Ocean Township to the southwest, Oceanport and West Long Branch to the west. The city is served by Long Branch Station, as well as Route 36 and Route 71. Long Branch in New Jersey is the birthplace of writer Dorothy Parker. Her birthplace at 732 Ocean Avenue is a National Literary Landmark. Points of interest in the city include Long Branch Beach, Cottage Place Beach, New Jersey Repertory Company, Great Lawn Beach, Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Manahasset Park, and Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monument Park.
