Mexico City (Ciudad de México) is the capital of Mexico. It was formerly known as the Federal District and is located in the Valley of Mexico, also called the Basin of Mexico. The city has a total area of about 1,485 square kilometers (573 square miles). It is the largest city in the country, the world’s largest Spanish-speaking city, and the most populous city in North America. Mexico City is a historic city founded on March 3, 1325, by the Mexica people. Today, it is one of the most important cultural, economic, and industrial hubs in Latin America and has one of the fastest-growing economies in the region. Mexico City International Airport is the busiest airport in Mexico and one of the busiest in Latin America.

Mexico City is a major tourist destination, offering a wide variety of palaces, museums, monuments, parks, boulevards, restaurants, nightlife spots, and entertainment venues.
