Nagpur, India

Nagpur (नागपूर) is the capital city of Maharashtra, located in the northeastern part of the state, in the central part of the Indian Subcontinent. Nagpur is among the largest cities in India and the largest municipal area in the south-central region of Asia. The city is situated on the Deccan Plateau and has an elevation of slightly over one thousand feet. The distance from Nagpur to the eastern and western borders of India is approximately the same. The city is about 440 miles east of Ahmedabad, 660 miles south of New Delhi, 490 miles south of Lucknow, 60 miles west of Kolkata, and 310 miles north of Hyderabad. Experts claim that Nagpur is located very close to the geographical center of India.

Near the city, there are several large natural preserves, including Pench National Park, Nawegaon National Park, Malewada Forest Range, Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, and Melghat Tiger Reserve. The most important neighborhoods of Nagpur include Pipla, Wadi, Nildoh, Digdoh, Bhokara, Panjara, New Khasala, Vanjari, Gonhi, Vhirgaon, and others. Central urban districts include Sadar, Mominpura, Dhantoli, Nandanvan, Natraj Nagar, and Shambhu Nagar. The metropolitan area of Nagpur is estimated to cover about 88 square miles, with the central part of the city located in the very center of the municipal area.
