Puthalam is a small coastal town situated near the city of Kanyakumari in southern Tamil Nadu, in the southernmost part of India. Puthalam can be found about 17 miles south of Nagercoil and it is a resort town near Highway 179. There are about 13,000 people living in the town and it is a center of tourism, with a few very nice hotels like Chothaviai Beach Hotel and a few very nice beaches. The community is very nice and friendly, with some amount of Christian population still living there. There is also a large and modern center of Biological research in the town where a number of scientific works is being carried out.
