It is located in the district of Basingstoke and Deane, North Hampshire, England, close to the villages of Overton, North Waltham, and Oakley. The village is best known as the birthplace of the English novelist Jane Austen. She lived in Steventon from 1775 to 1801, when she moved to Bath with her parents. The Rectory in which she wrote Pride & Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, and Sense & Sensibility was demolished around 1824.
