Visakhapatnam (విశాఖపట్నం), known as the “Jewel of the East Coast”, is a large city located in southern India, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, about 380 miles northeast of Chennai. It lies between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal. Visakhapatnam is the largest city in the state and its main economic center, with advanced road, rail, and air connections, and it is one of the Smart Cities of Andhra Pradesh.

Visakhapatnam Port, situated on the east coast of India, is the main port of the state and one of the major ports in the country. The city is home to important institutions such as the Indian Maritime University (Visakhapatnam campus), the National Institute of Oceanography (regional center), and the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy.
