Bhopal: The Capital of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal is a large city and the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, a state situated in the central region of India. The city is located approximately in the center of the state, about 110 miles east of the city of Indore and about 170 miles west of the city of Jabalpur. These are the largest cities of Madhya Pradesh. Bhopal is also the capital of the division and the district of the same name. The area of the city is close to 110 square miles, which makes Bhopal one of the country's top 20 largest cities. The city is situated in the lowlands near the Vindhya Mountain range, on the Malwa Plateau. 

Bhopal is known as the City of Lakes, since there are plenty of medium and small lakes in the area, with Upper Lake being one of the largest lakes in the neighborhood. Just like all capital cities of Indian states, Bhopal is the center of the administrative and executive branches of the state. The city is a center of small and medium businesses, focused mainly on producing consumer goods, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and so on. The numerous local points of interest include Taj-ul-Masajid, Birla Temple at Arera Hills, Van Vihar National Park, Bhimbetka Caves, Hathaikheda recreation area, and many more. There is a small local airport, Raja Bhoj Airport, situated to the northwest of the downtown area of the city. Bhopal is also known for its modern bus transit scheme called the Bus Rapid Transit System, which was opened in the early 2010s and has been operating successfully for many years.
