Bijapur, Karnataka, India

Bijapur (ವಿಜಯಪುರ) or Vijayapura, nicknamed City of victory, is a large city located in the northern part of Karnataka state, India. It is an old historic capital and the modern time's capital of the same name district. Its history dates back to the 10th century. There is a great number of historic buildings and monuments, old temples and tombs in the city. It is better to come to visit Bijapur in autumn and winter, when the temperature is not too high. It has many tourist attractions, including Gol Gumbaz, Shivagiri Monument, Bara Kaman, Begum Taalab, Ibrahim Roza, Gagana Mahal Palace, Shahapur Gate, Uppali Burj, and Jamiya Masjid. Bijapur railway station connects the city to the nearby towns and cities. The city is also home to Karnataka State Women's University, founded in 2003.
