Billings is a city in Montana, USA, located on the Yellowstone River in the southern part of the state. It is considered the most populous city in Montana. The city is served by U.S. Route 87 as well as Interstates 90 and 94. Billings covers a total area of about 43.5 square miles, and its elevation exceeds 3,000 feet.

The city is located approximately 220 miles southeast of Helena, the state capital. Denver lies about 550 miles to the south, Minneapolis is roughly 840 miles east of Billings, and the Salt Lake City metropolitan area is about 550 miles to the south-southwest. Billings and its surrounding region function primarily as transportation and commercial hubs.

The city enjoys a remarkable location surrounded by several spectacular mountain ranges, including the Bighorn Mountains, the Beartooth Mountains, the Absaroka Range, the Crazy Mountains, the Pryor Mountains, and others. It can be a great vacation destination, offering numerous points of interest and recreational opportunities. Custer Gallatin National Forest is located to the southwest of the city and is popular among visitors. Crow Reservation lies directly south of Billings, while another large natural preserve, the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation, is situated southwest of the city center.
