Charlestown is a small district in the neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, United States, situated on a peninsula south of the Mystic River and north of the Charles River. It was settled in 1628, annexed by Boston in 1847, and named for King Charles I. The area was originally called "Mishawum". Charlestown is located 2 miles north of Downtown Boston. There are several historical points of interest and attractions in the area, including Bunker Hill Monument, Millers River Potato Monument, USS Constitution Museum, Charlestown Marina, Charlestown Naval Shipyard Park, City Square Park, St. Mary's Church, and Bunker Hill Museum. It is also home to Bunker Hill Community College and Cambridge College. Interstate 93 serves the area. Charlestown was used as a filming location in the movies like The Departed (2006), Mystic River (2003), and Good Will Hunting (1997).
