Chickasha is a city in Oklahoma, United States, located about 42 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. Founded in the late 19th century by Canadian-American businessman Hobart Johnstone Whitley, the city today serves as the seat of Grady County and was incorporated in 1902. Chickasha is home to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, which was originally established in 1908 as the Oklahoma Industrial Institute and College for Girls. The city is served by Chickasha Municipal Airport, U.S. Routes 62, 81, and 277, Interstate 44, and State Highways 39, 19, and 92.
Chickasha offers several attractions, including Shannon Springs Park, located in the heart of the city, which features an amphitheater, playgrounds, and hosts the annual Chickasha Festival of Light. A large leg lamp statue inspired by the 1983 film A Christmas Story can also be seen in the downtown area. Other points of interest include the Chickasha Sports Complex, Chickasha Public Library, and Chickasha Community Theatre. Lake Chickasha, located about 15 miles northwest of the city, offers outdoor activities such as boating, swimming, hiking, and camping, along with picnic areas that are ideal for family outings.
The city is also the birthplace of acclaimed actor Lee Pace, known for the television series Pushing Daisies, who was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on March 25, 1979.
