Demjok (often called Demchok) is a small town situated in the state known as Jammu and Kashmir in north western India. It is a part of the district of Leh. The town is located on so called LAC, or the Line of Actual Control, which separated Indian lands from Chinese lands in the area. Demjok is a small community built in a small picturesque valley near the Indus River. It is interesting there is one more town located across the river on the Chinese side, which is called Demqog. It is believed that centuries ago there was only one settlement but it split in two parts, one becoming Indian and the other becoming Chinese. There are about 80 people living in the town, and there are about 35-40 buildings in Demjok.
