Downtown Portland, OR, USA

Downtown Portland is one of the central districts in the city of Portland, Oregon, situated on the western bank of the Willamette River and bordered by the Union Station district and the Portland State University area. This is a green district where many of the city’s skyscrapers, business and office centers, and shopping and commercial facilities can be found. Downtown Portland covers a relatively large area estimated at over 2.5 square miles and occupies much of the central part of the Willamette River embankment.

The southernmost part of the area is occupied by the large campus of Portland State University, where the well-known Portland State University Library is located. In the south, the district meets the area where Portland Union Station is located. Since Portland is called the “City of Bridges”, the central part of Downtown Portland is the place where many of the city’s major bridges can be found. These include the Broadway Bridge, the Steel Bridge, the Burnside Bridge, the Morrison Bridge, the Hawthorne Bridge, and the Marquam Bridge, all crossing the Willamette River and connecting the area with the urban zones on the eastern bank of the river.

In its western part, the downtown area is bordered by Interstate 405, and Interstate 5 passes through the southeastern part of the district. There are many parks located in Downtown Portland, including Keller Fountain Park, South Waterfront Park, Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Salmon Street Springs Park, Mill Ends Park, the Waterfront Park Trail Green Zone, Lan Su Chinese Garden, Director Park, O’Bryant Square, and others.
