El Reno, OK, USA

El Reno is a city in Oklahoma, United States, located 27 miles west of Oklahoma City. It serves as the seat of Canadian County and is known as “Howoh' Owuu'” in the Arapaho language. The area was originally inhabited by the Arapaho people before the Europeans came. The city is best known for the Oklahoma onion burger, also called the fried onion burger, which was created in El Reno in the 1920s. Fort Reno is one of the most important historical sites in the city, located in the northwestern part of El Reno. It was named after U.S. Army officer Jesse L. Reno, who served as a general during the American Civil War. Built in 1874, the fort witnessed several wars and battles throughout its history. Today, it is a U.S. historic district and has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since June 22, 1970.

El Reno is home to several educational institutions, including Redlands Community College. Another notable attraction is the El Reno Heritage Express, which opened in 2001. It offers a charming 1.5-mile heritage ride from the Canadian County Historical Museum to a downtown balloon loop, following a scenic route along historic city streets. The city is served by El Reno Regional Airport, Interstate 40, U.S. Route 81, and Oklahoma State Highway 66. Points of interest include El Reno Legion Park, the Route 66 El Reno Sign, and the Canadian County Museum.

El Reno has also been used as a filming location for Rain Man (1988), Elizabethtown (2005), Stillwater (2021), and Twisters (2024).

The 2013 El Reno tornado was the widest tornado ever recorded, reaching about 2.6 miles (4.2 km) in width near El Reno, Oklahoma, and it killed eight people and injured more than 150 others.
