Naini is a center of local Bagheli and Awadhi cultures, with interesting traditions and local crafts. The residents speak Hindi, Awadhi, Urdu, and Bagheli. There are two bridges in Naini: the New Yamuna Bridge and the Old Naini Bridge. Among the local attractions is Nageshwar Ghat, which is famous for its cultural and religious importance.

Naini is home to a campus of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology, and Sciences, established in 1910 by Dr. Sam Higginbottom. Naini Central Prison, also known as Naini Jail, is located in the city and is historically infamous for having imprisoned several prominent freedom fighters—among them Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Govind Ballabh Pant, Narendra Dev, Hasrat Mohani, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai, Indira Gandhi, and Feroze Gandhi—during the Indian independence movement.
