Ontario is Canada’s second-largest province, covering more than 415,000 square miles. Situated in the central part of Canada, Ontario is an English-speaking province. The province borders Manitoba to the west, Quebec to the east, Hudson Bay and James Bay to the north, and the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes to the south, sharing a border with the United States. Ontario is divided into two regions, Southern Ontario and Northern Ontario, which differ significantly in population density, arable land, and industry. The province has a rich culture and social life and is a center for education and sports in Canada. Ontario’s economy is based on manufacturing, agriculture, forestry, mining, and the service industry. Toronto, the capital city of Ontario, is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario.
