Hamnet Locations
Hamnet is a British period drama film directed by Chloé Zhao, who won the Academy Award for Best Director at the 93rd Oscars for Nomadland (2020). Written by Zhao and Maggie O’Farrell and based on O’Farrell’s novel of the same name, the film stars a great cast including Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn, and Justine Mitchell. Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes are among the film’s producers. Hamnet premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on 29 August 2025 and was released in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2026. It went on to receive several major awards, including Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Jessie Buckley at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.
Filming took place between July 29 and September 30, 2024. Hamnet was shot on location in Weobley, a historic town in Herefordshire, England, as well as in London at the London Charterhouse. The Charterhouse is a Grade I listed heritage building in Charterhouse Square, Barbican, originally built as a monastery in the 14th century.
