Cardiff, known as Caerdydd in Welsh, is the main city and the capital of Wales, located about 150 miles west of London. It is also the largest city in Cardiff County and one of the most important urban centers in the UK.

The city center is mostly flat and is bordered to the west by the Vale of Glamorgan, to the east by Newport, to the south by the Bristol Channel, and to the north by the South Wales Valleys. Cardiff Docks (Dociau Caerdydd in Welsh) was once one of the largest dock systems in the world.

The city is easily accessible via the M4 motorway and has direct rail connections to Bristol, Bath, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, and other major cities. It takes about two hours to travel from London to Cardiff by train. Beautiful natural surroundings, a mild maritime climate, rich history, and a distinct local culture make the city one of the most important tourist destinations in the region.

Local attractions include Cardiff Castle, Cardiff City Hall, Cardiff Bay Barrage, St Fagans Castle, Llandaff Cathedral, National Museum Wales, St Fagans National Museum of History, Welsh National War Memorial, Castell Coch, the Bishop’s Palace (Llandaff), Wales Millennium Centre, Flat Holm, and many others.

The city is also home to Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff University, the Old Library, and a campus of the University of South Wales. Cardiff Airport is located in Rhoose, about 12 miles west of the city center.
