Adelaide is a large city and the capital of South Australia, as well as the fifth most populous city on the continent. It is located on the Adelaide Plains, between Gulf St Vincent and the Mount Lofty Ranges. The settlement was established as part of the British colony at the end of the 18th century and has been developing rapidly since then. Today, it is a cultural and social center.

Adelaide is home to the University of South Australia (UniSA), Flinders University, the University of Adelaide, the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). The Adelaide Festival of Arts (The Adelaide Festival) is an annual arts festival held in the city since 1960. Adelaide International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country and is located about 3.7 miles west of the city center.

Adelaide is a very well-planned city, also known as the City of Churches, with many religious establishments. The downtown area is surrounded by parks, boulevards, green zones, and public squares, while the outskirts are more densely populated and busy. There are many attractions, landmarks, and historical buildings in the city, such as Parliament House, Chinatown on Moonta Street, Saint Francis Xavier's Cathedral, Barr Smith Library, the historic Torrens Building, the Natural History Museum, the Mitchell Building and Bonython Hall, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, the Thebarton Theatre, and many others.
