Belfast is the capital and the largest city of Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. Both the region and the city itself are located on the island of Ireland. Belfast is a major city in the region and a key business and tourism hub. With an area of about 52 square miles, the city enjoys a favorable geographical position near Belfast Lough and within reach of the North Channel.

Belfast is built along the banks of the River Lagan and has traditionally played an important role on the island. The city is accessible by both sea and air. The distance between Belfast and Dublin is about 104 miles, while Glasgow is approximately 145 miles away, and London is 320 miles to the southeast.

Geographically, Belfast is divided into four main areas: South Belfast, East Belfast, North Belfast, and West Belfast. Administratively, the city is divided into nine districts and 51 wards. Belfast is an industrial and cultural center, home to many monuments and museums, respected higher education institutions, and plenty of attractions.

The downtown area is located near the center of the municipal zone, and the largest nearby towns and suburbs include Lisburn, Bangor, Newtownards, Whiteabbey, and others. The city’s main airport, George Best Belfast City Airport, is situated about 4 miles northeast of the city center.
