Darwin, Australia

Darwin is a large, beautiful coastal city and an important seaport, as well as the capital of North Territory, Australia. It is located on the shores of the Timor Sea and can be found in one of the northernmost parts of the Australian continent. The total area of the metropolitan Darwin is about 12 hundred square miles, so the city is relatively large and is known as the largest northern city in Australia. Established just about 150 years ago by numerous settlers from Europe, today's Darwin is an important center of the cultural and business life of the region. The city can be found about 2,000 miles north west of Sydney, about 2,330 miles north west of Melbourne, and about 1,880 miles north of the city of Adelaide.

Geographically, the city is located on the shores of a beautiful bay in Darwin. There are numerous other smaller bays surrounding the downtown area of the city, like Frances Bay, Cullen Bay, and others. The former pioneer outpost, today's city is a typical local commercial center, with numerous small and medium businesses, excellent shopping facilities, great social services, and a quiet lifestyle. The largest outskirts of the city include such towns and districts as Rapid Creek, Hidden Valley, Tiwi, Shoal Bay, Knuckey Lagoon, and others. The region is known as not so heavily urbanized and is famous for its natural zones like Charles Darwin National Park, Howard Springs Hunting Reserve, Shoal Bay Coastal Reserve, and many others.
